Prologue Dialogue Epilogue

about

"Prologue Dialogue Epilogue" is actually the third version of one piece I composed years ago - the first version was the final track from my first album "Nothing Left But Light" where it is simply titled "Epilogue." It received a second reworking as the opening track for the album "Quiet Mountain," there called "Prologue/Epilogue."

The titles, obviously, hinted only at their placement in the album sequencing, as either the closing track or opening track, but with a hint of metaphor for the closing and opening of chapters of life, or of life itself. And so, the title of this work continues the evolution of this theme.

The first version on NLBL was mostly electronic, with trumpet and vocals on the melody. The second version on Quiet Mountain was much simpler, with solo cello (by the masterful Skip Von Kuske) as the melody instrument accompanied only by myself on grand piano. This reworked version features a full virtual orchestra + electronics, with flugelhorn and trumpet taking the melody line.

My intent here was to pick up this theme again, this time reworking it in the cinematic "soundtrack without a movie" format I've adopted with my more recent (and upcoming) albums.

The album art also reflects this throughline - a digital collage of artwork from both previous albums: the powerlines from "Nothing Left But Light," and an inverted Mount Hood from "Quiet Mountain."
